Fatal accident with paraglider occurred on the territory of Poland

At 17:00 UTC, nearby Besiekiery-Grabów road (Poland), a person – citizen of Ukraine took off the ground using a static line that was attached to the car’s tow hook. While airborne, at a height of about 20 m above the ground the paraglider wing collapsed what caused paraglider descent and collision with the ground. The person flying paraglider was killed, paraglider was destroyed.
According to paragraph 5.27 of Annex 13 to Chicago Convetion and by request of The State Commission on Aircraft Accidents Investigation (PKBWL) of Poland, for the purpose of participation into fatal accident investigation, NBAAI has appointed an expert.

According to the information received from investigation-in-charge on 14th December 2021, the PKBWL has stopped the investigation of the occurrence due to the fact that pilot of paraglider had no licence/rating at the time of the accident. It is also determined by article 135 item 6 of the Polish Aviation Law.

Further investigation will be done by police.

In this regard NBAAI will also consider this case stopped.
